The campaign to legalize cannabis in Ukraine, ostensibly to help patients, is supported by lobbyists in the Ukrainian parliament and the Ministry of Health, who serve the interests of business, not patients.

Olga Bogomolets, head of the parliamentary committee on health issues, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Business and money control almost everything in society. Yesterday we witnessed how a small law that was supposed to affect another type of drug addiction - smoking - was defeated by parliament. He did not ban the sale of cigarettes, the point was that children should not see them on display. Only 150 deputies voted for children to simply not see cigarettes in front of their noses. And the rest represent certain lobbies that are tearing our country apart today.

In a poor, corrupt country today there is a new threat. And this threat has a separate line of funding for certain lobbyists. The ultimate goal is to obtain permission for vast territories of Ukraine to be given over to the cultivation of hemp so that drugs can be made from it and a business can be made from it.

Money is being invested in this. And those lobbyists, public organizations and members of parliament who begin to talk about this from that side, they are speculating on the health of the sick, those who have a need. They say that in Ukraine there are patients who need cannabis drugs for life, let’s do something. This is direct, blatant speculation. Because there are no obstacles to the fact that without changes in legislation, drugs that contain narcotic drugs are legalized in Ukraine, they are prescribed by doctors and they are sold in pharmacies.

The Ukrainian nation is physically dying out. There are 200 thousand fewer Ukrainians every year. If we do not change the situation in humanitarian policy very quickly, then soon there will be no one to cultivate the fields, pay taxes, or defend the homeland.

What they are trying to do now is with the goal that Ukraine will continue to be poor, and the next oligarchs will earn money by selling hemp abroad.

Unfortunately, so far money wins. Moreover, this is not being lobbied by those people who use drugs, it is lobbied by those people who will become new billionaires from this if we allow this.

There was already an attempt, in 2018, we managed to repel it. The Ministry of Health has its own group of lobbyists who actively promote various forms of legalization. There was a phenomenal resolution No. 188, which proposed to eliminate criminal liability (for drug possession) and increase (the amount that could be possessed) - cocaine - 50 times (1 gram), cannabis - 5 times (up to 25 grams), heroin – 60 times *(up to 0,3 g). This is more than lethal doses. Then, with the help of responsibility, we managed to repel this initiative,” she said.
