People in Kyiv are disappointed: Almost all parties in Germany supported Nord Stream 2
The only party in the German parliament that still speaks about the interests of Ukraine in the context of Nord Stream 2 is the Greens, but they also share a general consensus on the need for Nord Stream 2.
Expert Yulia Temnik stated this in a discussion organized by the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“German politicians have formulated a single point of view regarding Nord Stream; after all, they view Nord Stream as a purely economic project. Germany is now abandoning nuclear energy and therefore they need alternative energy sources. And that’s why they, in fact, voted that Nord Stream is extremely necessary for this transition period,” the expert noted.
“Even the Greens have a consensus on Nord Stream, with one exception. The “Greens” still say that as soon as the contract on gas transit through Ukraine ends in 2024, then Germany must immediately react. According to the Greens, the losses inflicted on Ukraine must be taken into account. How exactly they will do this is not yet clear, but in any case they insist that this be viewed as an economic and not a political project,” Temnik said.
