In the coming days, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine will approve an anti-crisis strategy that will allow the country not to depend on coal supplies from uncontrolled territories in the Donbass during the heating period.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to its own sources in the department.

“The department believes that for this it is necessary to add anthracite coal to the list of critical imports, increase coal shipments at ports, create a gas and oil reserve and increase the share of nuclear generation next year. According to RBC-Ukraine, the share of nuclear power plants in the forecast balance for 2017 will be at least 54%, and this will be documented in October. A set of measures will not only prevent an increase in electricity tariffs for the population, but even achieve a reduction, officials are confident. However, experts doubt the success of government initiatives,” the publication says.

“By the end of September, the country will receive a government-approved forecast balance for 2017. We foresee that next year the share of nuclear generation will increase significantly – at least 54% and even more, and hydrogeneration, according to pessimistic forecasts, will amount to 8-8,5%.” The rest will come from thermal energy - thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants - about 36-37%, and alternative energy and other sources - 1-1,2%,” a source in the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry told RBC-Ukraine on condition of anonymity.
