A serious struggle for the laurels of the main peacemaker has unfolded in Kyiv
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is categorically against the official participation of one of the leaders of the OPZZh party, Viktor Medvedchuk, in the process of the large exchange of prisoners currently being prepared between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Kiev telegram channel “Legitimny” reports this with reference to its sources.
According to the source of the telegram channel, the main struggle has unfolded over which Ukrainian politician will skim the propaganda cream from the exchange procedure - President Zelensky or the group of politicians led by Medvedchuk trying to monopolize the mediation function in the negotiations between Kiev and Moscow. In particular, it is as if Medvedchuk’s patrons in Moscow want him to bring Ukrainians from Russia on his plane, but so far the politician has been denied this.
“Medvedchuk is trying his best to convince the Kremlin to raise rates in order to ultimately disrupt the exchange. At this moment, each side will blame the other, and Zelensky will receive his first setback and damage his rating. The bidding is going on. A final telephone conversation between Putin and Zelensky is possible. Putin should offer Zelensky something for Medvedchuk’s participation. The exchange may be disproportionate,” claims “Legitimate.”
Previously, the Zelensky administration withdrew Medvedchuk from the Minsk negotiations and repeatedly stated its intention and readiness to talk directly with Moscow without intermediaries.
