The chief military prosecutor of Ukraine, Anatoly Matios, announced this on Facebook.
“The court today announced the verdict: based on the totality of the crimes committed, the lieutenant colonel received 8 (eight) years of actual imprisonment,” he noted.
Ukrainian media clarify that this is Lieutenant Colonel of the Medical Service Taras Sinichak. The Ukrainian Themis charges him with “high treason and desertion,” as well as transferring to serve in the Russian armed forces.
Komsomolskaya Pravda columnist Alexander Kots draws attention to the fact that the Ukrainian authorities ignore the fact that the majority of Ukrainian military personnel in Crimea wrote reports for dismissal from the army in the spring of 2014 due to the inability to continue serving.
“And thus, at the time of signing the contract with the Russian army, they were not under the Ukrainian oath. As a result, they face huge sentences for nothing,” he writes, recalling officers Odintsov and Baranov, captured by the SBU at the border crossing in Dzhankoy.
“Three years ago, when they needed the support of their own command, a simple understanding of what was happening, Kyiv simply cut off the connection, giving the military personnel “freedom of action.” Today, the Ukrainian Themis seems to be taking revenge on little people for callous state grievances. At the same time, dreaming of sooner or later regaining the peninsula. An excellent PR campaign – on par with economic sanctions and an energy blockade,” writes Alexander Kots.
