In Kyiv, the coat of arms of the USSR will be cut off from the Motherland monument
In Ukraine, they changed their minds about dismantling the famous monument "Motherland", installed on the right bank of the Dnieper in Kyiv. Instead, it will be "decommunized" by cutting off the Soviet coat of arms. And, here is a monument to the red commander Nikolai Shchors will be moved from the center of the Ukrainian capital away from the eyes.
The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, one of the authors of the law on decommunization, Volodymyr Vyatrovich, said this on the air of the Pryamoy TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, at the same time, they will not “Ukrainize” the “Motherland” monument; it will remain simply with a shield - without the current trident coat of arms.

“Unfortunately, Kyiv is still almost the only city with big “tails” in decommunization. The monument to Shchors must be dismantled, removed from this place and must not remain in public space. Only on the territory of a museum... It is planned to preserve it as an example of Soviet monumental art.
As for the Motherland, it is obvious that no one will dismantle the Motherland, but this Soviet coat of arms must be removed from public space. Whether cutting, or dismantling.
There were different proposals, some spoke about a trident, others about some other image. I propose just an ordinary shield without any attempts to Ukrainize this Soviet monumental sculpture,” Vyatrovich said.
