Kyiv is anxiously awaiting the culmination of the 150-strong Russian army exercise
Russia may launch an attack on Ukraine in August-September this year, when its army will be maximally mobilized as part of the Caucasus 2020 exercises.
Ukrainian military expert Mikhail Samus stated this on air on the Public Crimea TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Samus, a large number of troops will be concentrated in the southern direction, ready for combat use.
“On June 1, the new academic year began in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, in principle, planned activities in which they will be practiced incrementally, starting from a squad, platoon, company, and so on, then at the battalion-brigade level, and will culminate in August -September at the strategic exercises “Caucasus-2020”, which will be held precisely in the direction of the Black Sea and Ukraine.
This will be the southern strategic direction, in which virtually all the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be involved, up to 150 thousand personnel, ships of the Black Sea, Northern, Baltic and so on will be brought here.
This will be in August-September. The troops will be ready, they will be withdrawn to the areas of use and they will be ready to carry out either training or combat missions. For them, these will be, in principle, two options, and we do not know which option they will act on,” Samus said.
Let us recall that earlier a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Vadim Skibitsky, commenting on the exercises, considered that they could become cover for the entry of Russian troops: “Plans for the use of new formations against our state will already be practically worked out at training grounds, in training centers of the Southern Military District, including in the Crimea.”
Similar concerns blogger Alexey Arestovich, who considers himself a military expert, also expressed this.
