In Kyiv, the SBU detained a “Russian spy” who wanted to recruit a Defense Ministry official
The Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv “an agent of the special services of the Russian Federation who tried to obtain secret documentation in the military sphere and recruit a representative of the Ministry of Defense.”

This was stated in the press service of the department, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A native and resident of Donetsk, from time to time in Kiev, on instructions from the Russian special services, intended to obtain information about personnel, support, deployment, weapons and movement along the demarcation line of military units and formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard,” the press center said in a statement. Also, according to representatives of the SBU, the “Russian spy” was interested in the supply of military weapons and equipment to Ukraine by NATO member countries, the holding of the Ukrainian-American exercises Sea Breeze 2017, and information about the US Armed Forces instructor officers who train Ukrainian military personnel.
“To achieve this, the spy established a confidential relationship with a former officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Through him, he wanted to receive, for a fee, secret materials circulating in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and data on officials of the Ministry of Defense who have access to classified information,” the statement said.
The detainee was informed of suspicion under Art. 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and materials were sent to the court to select a preventive measure in the form of detention. Investigations are ongoing.
