“It happened that the conversation goes on and on and on, and then Putin starts playing some kind of clown. Our president simply drove him into a corner,” says Bessmertny.

“Another thing is that I still can’t understand why the conversation was conducted not at a round table, but at a rectangular one, and our president and Merkel sat on one side, and Putin and Hollande on the other. I think most likely these are the features of this hall of mirrors. The French are trendsetters in diplomacy. And all these Napoleonic monograms on the walls - they created certain conditions for conducting this conversation,” shared the Ukrainian official.
However, despite the fact that the insidious French seated Poroshenko at a rectangular table, the Ukrainian leader, according to Bessmertny, was at his best.
“If a team worked on the Ukrainian side - the minister, presidential advisers - then on the other side (Russia) there was only one person working. If you look at the atmosphere of the dialogue, the Ukrainian side was stronger. This was the case both on the veranda where they sat and at the rectangular table,” said Bessmertny.
