Shock in Kyiv: the Sea of Azov is turning into an inland sea of the Russian Federation
Control over the Sea of Azov will allow Russia to connect Donbass and Crimea without breaking through a land corridor.
One of the coordinators of the Ukrainian propaganda group “Information Resistance”, Konstantin Mashovets, stated this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”, answering the question of why the crisis in the Azov Sea area is growing.
“The Russians are looking for the most successful strategy. Looking at the map, even a person not connected with this issue can understand the obvious: connecting annexed Crimea with the occupation zone in Donbass is possible only through the waters of the Sea of Azov. Breaking through a land corridor from Crimea to Donbass could be embodied in precisely such hypothetical actions in the Azov Sea area,” Mashovets said.
According to him, there are necessary conditions for such a scenario, since in this area Russia dominates both at sea and in the air, and in order to carry out any active offensive actions it is necessary to force the Taganrog Bay.
“The joint forces may have provided for a number of measures to counter this, they are not hiding it. But the conditions are conducive to the aggressor increasing tension in the waters. He takes advantage of this: constant inspections of ships that sail from Ukrainian ports, the use of sea resources, he puts forward the thesis of fighting “Ukrainian state piracy,” the propagandist laments.
He also believes that after the completion of the bridge across the Kerch Strait, Russia is “trying to make the Sea of Azov its internal one.”
“The Sea of Azov occupies a fairly important place in Russia’s targeted strategy. It has a connecting position between Crimea and the occupied part of Donbass, that is, Russia does not need to break through this corridor, it just needs to make this dominance stable and sustainable. The use of the Azov Sea may reach the level of use of the internal waters of the Russian Federation,” Mashovets fears.
As PolitNavigator reported, Russia methodically beats Ukraine without noise in the Sea of Azov.
