The director of the information and consulting company Defense Express, a member of the board of the League of Defense Enterprises, Sergei Zgurets, spoke about this in an interview with Apostrophe, according to whom, after Crimea became part of Russia, the peninsula was “turned into an unsinkable aircraft carrier.”
“The increase in the number of personnel of the Black Sea Fleet, the relocation of new types of equipment, including S-400 complexes, Bastion missile systems and others, have significantly increased the combat potential of this administrative unit, which is now controlled by the Russian Federation. Given that Tu-22M3 bombers that use cruise missiles are based there, this potential is actually capable of covering a fairly large range, ranging from capturing half of Britain and with the same radius the lower hemisphere of the Earth. Thus, they were able to carry out attacks on areas that were previously unattainable,” laments the Ukrainian expert.
“Naturally, the potential of Crimea threatens Europe, NATO countries, Ukraine and other countries located downstream,” Zgurets believes. “Therefore, the attention to this region from other states will be extremely great. And any actions of Russia will find some kind of response from the NATO countries in terms of creating, for example, a system of protection against such threats. Because, for example, the same NATO bases in Turkey and Romania also require additional protection from, primarily, the United States, in order to minimize the risks of destruction of this base by Russian forces.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman named Crimea “a threat to the whole world.”
