Ukrainian leftist leader Vasily Volga captured in Kyiv
The leader of the Union of Left Forces, publicist and political scientist Vasily Volga was captured by Ukrainian special services and is being held in inhumane conditions.
Journalist Polina Reutova reported this on her Telegram channel with reference to a family member of the detainee, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is clarified that during the arrest Vasily Volga was wounded and is now in serious condition. Only two days ago, through incredible efforts, it was possible to get a doctor to see him.
Electronic means of communication, materials containing correspondence, work information were confiscated from the politician, and access to social networks was taken away.
“The person is being tortured and is in terrible conditions. His life is in real danger. They use prohibited methods of influence and threaten family and friends. I ask the Russian side to make this fact of abuse of a Ukrainian citizen as public as possible and to include Vasily on the exchange list.
If opinion leaders are so quickly broken, then what about their like-minded people? People are scared and in danger. They must be sure that Russia will not abandon them,” Reutova urged.
Journalist Yulia Vityazeva, forced to leave Odessa after 2014, assured that, despite the obvious reaction from the West, this issue will be raised at the highest levels.
“Tomorrow our delegation will talk about this at the UN. But will she be heard? And will the West take at least some steps to ensure that these people are released?” – the journalist wrote on her blog.
According to historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov, Vasily Volga has already been in prison for at least two weeks.
