In Kyiv, the square was renamed in honor of the “pravosek” from France, killed in the Donbass
The Kiev City Council today, with the votes of 75 deputies, supported the initiative of the nationalist party “Svoboda” to rename the square on Andreevsky Spusk 33/6 in honor of the French opera singer Vasily Slipak, who volunteered to fight the Donbass as part of the “Right Sector” and was eliminated by a sniper in the summer of 2016.
This was announced by the author of the initiative, deputy Yuri Sirotyuk.
As PolitNavigator reported, music critics had previously noted that Slipak could not boast of a successful career, and this was precisely the reason for his departure to the war.
“Slipak did have a very beautiful bass, but it would be an exaggeration to say that this singer had an outstanding international career,” music critic Maria Babalova. – He performed mainly in minor European theaters. Having looked through his contracts for 2012–2016, I did not see a single “first” theater - neither La Scala, nor Covent Garden. Slipak performed in Krakow and in Parisian theaters. He sang Slavic music, also Escamillo in Carmen, Sparafucile in Rigoletto. The singer had few contracts - two or three a year. It is a fact that he often “killed” on stage. I will assume that it was Slipak’s lack of success in his opera career that brought him to Donbass. And he didn’t go there for concerts.”
Thank you!
