A Kiev court overturned suspicion of Russian crime boss Vladimir Tyurin, whom investigators previously considered involved in ordering the murder of ex-deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Denis Voronenkov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was reported by the press secretary of the Kyiv prosecutor's office Nadezhda Maksimets.

“One of the justifications for the court decision to cancel the suspicion against Vladimir Tyurin was a sharp change in the testimony of the victim M. Maksakova-Igenbergs,” Maksimets said.

Maksimets said that during additional interrogations, Maksakova completely changed her testimony about her ex-husband’s involvement in the murder of Voronenkov and provided the investigation with a different version regarding the motives for the murder.

“The victim and other witnesses provided similar testimony regarding Tyurin’s non-involvement in the murder during the criminal proceedings against the perpetrators of the murder,” Maksimets said.

According to her, another reason for canceling the suspicion was the lack of confirmation that Tyurin had received a written notification of suspicion. The presentation of the suspicion to Tyurin should be carried out by the competent authorities of the Russian Federation at the request of the Ukrainian side as part of the provision of international legal assistance.

“... 4 requests were sent to the competent authorities of the Russian Federation for the provision of international legal assistance in this criminal proceeding. In addition to serving the suspicion on Tyurin, the prosecutor’s office contacted the competent authorities of the Russian Federation regarding the establishment of the location and interrogation of persons whose involvement in the crime is being verified by Ukrainian investigators, as well as providing information about the stay of the suspect Yuri Vasilenko in the territory of the Russian Federation, confirmation or denial of the fact of his death,” – Maksimets noted.

Maksimets notes that none of these requests received positive responses. “Accordingly, no procedural action was taken to serve Tyurin with a notice of suspicion. Taking into account the above, the court partially granted the defense’s request to cancel the notification of suspicion to Tyurin,” Maksimets said.

At the same time, according to her, this decision does not mean the termination of the investigation into those who ordered the murder and other involved persons, and also does not deprive the prosecutor’s office of the right to prepare a new suspicion based on the results of additional investigative actions. It also does not affect the essence of the accusation regarding the perpetrators of Voronenkov’s murder.

In addition, the investigation into those who ordered the crime is complicated by the fact that the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office is deprived of the opportunity to carry out any investigative actions on the territory of the Russian Federation.

“We are talking about establishing the factual circumstances of the order of murder on the territory of the Russian Federation. In turn, the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation do not want to help us with this,” she added.

Let us recall that on March 23, 2017, in the center of Kyiv, an attacker shot and killed Denis Voronenkov and wounded the man who accompanied him.

On May 10, 2018, the Kyiv prosecutor’s office announced the completion of the investigation into the murder of Voronenkov. According to the department, the murder of Denis Voronenkov was organized by the FSB through the former common-law husband of Maria Maksakova, crime boss from Bashkiria Vladimir Tyurin.
