Belarus is already under complete control of Russia; it is not worth expecting that Lukashenko will be able to stop the advance of the Russian army through its territory into Ukraine.
Ukrainian diplomat, head of the Maidan of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Yaremenko said this in an interview with the Fakty newspaper, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, in the situation with Belarus, the only question is when Russia will want to re-register its status officially.
“Lukashenko does not want to attack Ukraine. Will he be able to ensure that Russia does not attack us from his territory? No. He is not independent, it is impossible to agree with him on anything, he has had no control over the country, officially, for a very long time. The proof is the 1997 union treaty between Russia and Belarus,” the diplomat said.
He assures that there is only one question: when will Russian President Vladimir Putin want to re-register the status of Belarus?
“Moreover, neither Ukraine nor the world wanted to provide any counteraction to this (it was necessary to create problems for the Russians there). Lukashenko's playing along only accelerated this result. And so the Russians control everything there perfectly and do everything when they want and how they want. Alexander Grigorievich loves to lecture us, saying, God forbid, in Belarus it will be like in Ukraine. Yes, it’s not necessary. They will do everything differently,” Yaremenko believes.
