In Kyiv they compared Ukraine with the USA, and Putin with the British monarch
Russian President Vladimir Putin is well aware of when and how Ukraine came into existence and exists, but the task of his government is to prove the opposite to Ukrainians.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by corresponding member, head. Department of History of Ukraine of the 20-30s. XX century Institute of History of Ukraine NAS Larisa Yakubova, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“When the leader of a neighboring state says that Ukraine is a “fail state”, that it has not been implemented, that such a country did not exist, he, firstly, shows his great-power matrix of the world.
It's the same as if Queen Elizabeth II went to parliament and said that there is no such country as the United States because her ancestors once created it. Moreover, she has much more grounds for this, because she is a monarch, and this is her former colony.
She could also say that there is no such country as Australia, which is still the domain of Great Britain. But the world community would then become tense,” argues the Ukrainian “historian.”
“But what distinguishes Elizabeth II from Vladimir Putin is the general level of culture. The Queen of England simply will not allow this. This is the first. Secondly, when he says this, he is pursuing a specific goal, an absolutely political one. This does not even mean his ignorance of history or unwillingness to know it.
He may be absolutely aware of when and how Ukraine came into being. But now his government, his government, faces another task, which he is implementing in this way. It is important for him to convince the world community and us, Ukrainians, that we do not exist, and such a state has never existed,” Yakubova added.
The historian did not explain why the USA and Australia do not pursue an Anglophobic policy at the state level and do not seek to join military blocs hostile to Great Britain.
