In Kyiv, the court released one of the ex-siloviki involved in the Maidan case
One of the suspects in the Euromaidan cases, ex-fighter of the Omega unit Dmitry Khmel, was released from night house arrest by a court decision, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv.
The court released him on personal recognizance and this preventive measure will be in effect until January 28, 2020.
The prosecutor filed a petition for Khmel's release.
It is reported that the reason for this change in the preventive measure for Khmel is that, according to the Criminal Procedure Code, the suspect cannot be kept under house arrest for more than 6 months during the pre-trial investigation.
Since June, Khmel has been required to observe XNUMX-hour house arrest and wear an electronic bracelet. The case was suspended in August.
Previously, two former Berkut fighters involved in the case were released under house arrest.
A number of Ukrainian telegram channels do not rule out that such a step as the release of an ex-fighter should be considered in the context of preparing the exchange between Ukraine and uncontrolled territories planned before the new year. It is no secret that in Donetsk and Lugansk Kyiv is accused of unwillingness to exchange Berkut employees currently involved in Maidan cases.
