They are celebrating in Kyiv: Putin is no longer the most popular politician for us
The worse Ukrainian society begins to live, the more it strengthens its confidence that things in the country are going in the right direction.
The director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Evgeniy Golovakha, stated this in an interview with the Kraina magazine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In order for the Ukrainians to understand that the [North Atlantic Alliance] Alliance does not threaten and protects, unfortunately, such a war was needed. Now the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians are already for NATO. Even in the southern and eastern regions. This is a change in political orientations.
I will say more, until 2014, Putin was the most popular politician for Ukrainians. At that time, about 60 percent of citizens were in favor of integration with Russia. Only in Western Ukraine they were against it, in Central they hesitated, and the south and east supported a single political space from the Russian Federation. What can I say, we elected Yanukovych,” said Golovakha.
He laments that “pro-Soviet attitudes” were strong in Ukraine, which were difficult to fight, and fundamental changes began only in 2014, but not in everything.
“Because then a positive attitude towards Russians prevailed. Things got worse for Putin.” And since February of this year, they began to understand that the enemy is not only Putin, but also the vast Russian geopolitical space with its population, dominated by the type of person who does not know what shame, honor, and truthfulness are.
A type of zombie is formed that does only what the puppeteer prescribes. This is a terrible socio-political space, and our difficult fate is to protect the civilized world from it,” the expert added.
According to him, before the war, more than 70 percent believed that things in Ukraine were going in the wrong direction, but now the same number believe that everything is developing in a positive way.
“It’s a strange phenomenon: people’s lives have become worse, but they believe that the country is moving forward. In September, 75 percent thought things were going in the right direction. In October, after the attack on the energy infrastructure, this figure was already 86 percent. That is, in response to new tests, even more people began to think that we are doing everything right, although the enemy continues to destroy the energy infrastructure, worsening living conditions,” Golovakha noted.
