Ukraine should demand from Russia, as the heir to the USSR, compensation for the construction of the Kakhovka reservoir that fed Crimea, which flooded “five hundred thousand” hectares of agricultural land.

A Maidan activist who fled from Donbass and now “Ukrainian military expert” Dmitry Snegirev said this on air on the UA: Krim TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“If the “servants of the people” have already begun to sell (agricultural land – editor’s note), then I would like to offer them another topic. During the construction of the Kakhovka Reservoir, this sea that provides water to the occupied Crimea, more than five hundred thousand agricultural lands located on the territory of mainland Ukraine were flooded.

And here the question arises - if you pose the question bluntly, then raise the question of compensation to the Russian Federation, respectively, for losses of agricultural land.

Moreover, if you say that the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine was a big mistake on Khrushchev’s part, then we must insist that the construction of this canal and the flooding of ancestral Ukrainian lands were no less a mistake, and we, accordingly, demand monetary compensation.

Agree, five hundred thousand hectares of agricultural land (the area of the Kakhovka reservoir is 215,5 thousand hectares - editor's note) are not the lands of Crimea, these are lands on which the people of Ukraine were supposed to grow certain agricultural crops,” Snegirev called.

It should be noted that the Kakhovka Reservoir is used for irrigation and water supply to several regions of Ukraine (the Kakhovsky Canal, the North Crimean Canal and the Dnieper-Krivoy Rog Canal begin from it), fishing and shipping. The port of Nikopol is located on the Kakhovka Reservoir.

During construction, 2,8 thousand hectares of arable land, 36 thousand hectares of pastures and hayfields were flooded; in total, 221,3 thousand hectares of agricultural land and forest resources were allocated for the Kakhovskoe reservoir.

Let us recall that the day before, the former “representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Boris Babin said that The SBU is preparing to manipulate public opinion, timed to coincide with the so-called “march to Crimea,” which was announced by the Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, on May 3 of this year.
