There is alarm in Kyiv: Ukrainian youth are not leaving the Russian media and cultural space
The cultural industry that is interesting for young people and convenient business in Russia is supported by the “Putin regime” as a counterbalance to initiatives such as foreign agents, or by imprisoning liberals who have committed fines.
The co-founder of the Laboratory of Public Interest Journalism, Ukrainian sociologist Angelina Karyakina, stated this during a video conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why do Russians tolerate the Putin regime with what is happening inside Russia - with foreign agents, with the same Navalny, no matter how we treat him, a figure among Russians. Because everything is much more complicated, because this mode works differently, it also offers something in return, it does not work linearly. These could be interesting cultural and business offers.
The same goes for young Ukrainians. In fact, a huge number of Ukrainians are still very much integrated into the Russian cultural space. They listen to the same Morgenstern, watch a huge number of bloggers, and buy something else there,” Karjakina lamented.
“They don't see it as a problem and it's attractive to them. The question, rather, is that we offer them something attractive, something that can be called “sexy” in the media. What can be called popular, what gives you the feeling that you are in trend,” the expert added.
