“Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine for Crimea” Anton Kornievich held a webinar for Ukrainian “journalists” on the correct presentation of information regarding Crimea in the Ukrainian media.

At the propaganda lecture, Korinevich introduced himself as a teacher at the Kyiv Institute of International Relations of the Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and an international lawyer, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

In his opinion, the Ukrainian media can use the term “annexation,” since annexation is always illegal, as well as the term “temporarily occupied.” Russia should be called an “aggressor”, and pro-Russian Crimeans should be called “collaborators”, and terms such as “militia” cannot be used, since it is “too positive,” said the internationalist.

“If we are talking about the so-called. Crimean self-defense, which participated in all these processes, then we can say that it was an organized group that was under the control of the Russian Federation. You can also call them separatists, but separatism is not a clear legal category.

Just like the use of the term “rebels”: I always say that in Kyiv there is a street of the People’s Militia, this is a positive connotation. If we use terms such as the militia of some Donbass, militias or something else, we may also come across that people may think that we perceive these people positively.

Can we call pro-Russian Crimeans collaborators? Yes. A collaborator is someone who cooperates with the occupying state. Therefore, yes. We need to look more specifically at what the boundaries of this collaboration are - either it is participation in administration, or it is the commission of international crimes. But as a collaborator, yes,” the propagandist told the propagandists.

He also explained that stopping water supplies to Crimea is not a sanction against Russia, but a form of pressure, and in legal documents Crimea should be mentioned only together with Sevastopol.

“A temporary suspension of water supply is rather a form of pressure, absolutely correct, because we know from research, from the thoughts of specialist experts, the issue of water supply is an issue that is very difficult for the occupying state to resolve on its own, if not impossible. Ukraine should not resolve issues of the occupying state for it.

“Temporarily occupied Crimea” - this term can be used in general articles, at international events, when we talk about Crimea as a whole. When we write regulations, it is important for us to say both “Autonomous Republic of Crimea” and “the city of Sevastopol” so that, firstly, this Sevastopol does not fall anywhere. In legal documents it is necessary to use the term “temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol,” Kornievich instructs.
