Yesterday, August 25, at a meeting of the permanent commission of the Kyiv City Council on budget and socio-economic development, deputies supported the draft decision to rename Panfilovtsev Street to Volunteer Battalions Street.
The initiator of the draft decision is Kyiv City Council deputy Petro Kuzyk.
According to him, the adoption and implementation of this decision will allow us to honor the memory of the soldiers of volunteer battalions who made a significant contribution to the struggle for independence, the development of the Ukrainian state, maintaining international peace and security, and strengthening the international authority of Ukraine.
“Volunteer battalions are military formations with law enforcement functions, which were part of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and are designed to perform tasks to protect and protect the lives, rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens of Ukraine, society and the state from criminal and other unlawful attacks, protect public order and ensuring public safety, as well as in interaction with law enforcement agencies - to ensure state security and protection of the state border, suppressing terrorist activities, the activities of illegal paramilitary or armed groups, terrorist organizations, organized groups and criminal organizations. Now volunteer battalions are part of the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and are participating in the anti-terrorist operation in the east of our country,” says the explanatory note to the draft decision.
