In Kyiv they “reassured”: Without Russian gas, Ukrainians will become poorer, but will not die
Naftogaz will no longer be able to conclude an agreement with Gazprom that guarantees long-term utilization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system; the costs will be transferred to the pockets of ordinary citizens of Ukraine.
Energy expert Dmitry Marunich announced this to the Politeka YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The point of an effective solution to Ukrainian transit has been missed, and for a long time. It is impossible to agree with the Russians on maintaining significant volumes of transit, it is simply impossible, unless a miracle happens.
A consortium solution would be effective. But his berth came a long time ago. Our law says that Russians cannot have anything to do with gas capacities within the country,” the expert noted.
Marunich “reassured” his fellow citizens with the news that life in Ukraine would continue without Russian gas.
“But we should not consider that transit was given to us by our Ukrainian God. It feels like there will be no transit, and we will all face complete destruction and death. This is wrong. There are states even in Europe that do not use pipeline gas and live. Montenegro, for example. There are countries where gas consumption is low - for example, Bulgaria.
Yes, people don’t live well there; this is not Germany or France. But transit should not be taken for granted. He may or may not be. Yes, there will be consequences. Yes, any incoming revenue is a “plus” for the state of Ukraine.
But under the current conditions, I do not predict that transit will last long in such volumes as, for example, happened in 2018 and 2019. This is inevitable, we must accept the inevitability,” the expert concluded.
