This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the President of the Center for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” Mikhail Gonchar.
“When we look at the situation in the difficult relations between Russia and the West, we will see that the West is now on the verge of a geopolitical catastrophe, which can be compared with the end of the 70s, when Iran was lost after the fall of the Shah’s regime in Tehran,” said the expert. – What is currently happening between Russia and Turkey and Erdogan’s evolution towards Russia, in fact, means the possible loss of Turkey for Western alliances. That is, NATO’s southern flank is falling off. It is possible that in the near future Russia and Turkey will come to an agreement regarding the liquidation of the US air base in Incirlik.”
“It is no coincidence that Russia is demonstrating that it has an air base in Hamadan, although this is situational, and I do not think that this is a strategic option. In this way, Russia openly demonstrates to both the West and Ukraine that it is situationally winning, that new situational alliances are being formed. And in the conditions of conducting a hybrid war, our research shows that rigid alliances are not needed - we need situational alliances, which make it possible to solve problems that later develop into a strategic picture.”
