Kiev saw a signal from Lukashenko to normalize relations
The general tone of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's speech at yesterday's press conference and his statements regarding Ukraine indicate that he is ready to restore relations with Kiev.
Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics Ruslan Bortnik stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“What Lukashenko said testifies, on the one hand, to the degradation of Belarusian-Ukrainian relations. On the other hand, he showed a readiness to restore relations, restore dialogue, intensify it, and take some steps in this direction. This was the general background of his speech,” the expert believes.
“Of course, the harshest words were those regarding the alleged training of militants on the territory of Ukraine; some accumulated grievances were heard. We also learned some new things, in particular, that Protasevich was interrogated by representatives of the LPR, and also that Poroshenko greeted representatives of the LPR and greeted them when signing the Minsk agreements. This is quite new information in our information field,” Bortnik said.
