Kiev saw Mattis's resignation as a bad sign for Ukraine
The resignation of United States Secretary of Defense James Mattis increases the risk of unpredictable actions, including in the Ukrainian direction.
He told the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe” about this
Sergei Galaka.“It is difficult to predict what the consequences of this resignation may be for politics in the Ukrainian-Russian direction. At least in his position, Pompeo remains quite tough in his approaches. But we don’t yet know how the new minister will behave and whether he will be a more or less independent figure like Mattis was. Mattis’s resignation is not a very good sign for Ukraine,” the expert noted
Mattis was one of the experienced people holding Trump back, he said.
“Another of them, John Kelly, resigned two weeks ago. So, the risk of unpredictable actions is growing, Galaka fears. – And Ukraine would, of course, like to see a more stable and consistent policy of support. Let's see what changes."
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, US President Donald Trump announced his resignation Secretary of Defense, whom the head of the White House previously called “like a Democrat.”
