In Kyiv, the scandalous deputy prosecutor general who failed the investigation of the Maidan case was fired
The head of the liquidated Special Investigations Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, Sergei Gorbatyuk, was fired from the GPU, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He announced this in a comment to the Kyiv publication RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, he received a call from the HR department and was informed that the dismissal order had already been signed. At the same time, he noted that he had not personally seen the order.
“I haven’t seen the order yet, they called me from the personnel department and said that there was an order from the Prosecutor General to fire me,” Gorbatyuk said.
According to him, he is now going to the GPU to familiarize himself with the order. He also noted that there are no legal grounds for his dismissal yet.
It should be noted that before this, Gorbatyuk was not allowed to recertify, since he did not submit an application agreeing that anonymous names could be taken into account during the interview. Later, the Prosecutor General's Office announced that they would fire all prosecutors who refused to recertify.
Also this week, the General Prosecutor's Office created the criticized Department of Procedural Guidance on criminal proceedings in crimes committed on the Maidan in 2013-2014. Accordingly, the Department of Special Investigations, which was headed by Gorbatyuk, was abolished. The investigation of crimes on the Maidan will be carried out by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Lawyer Andrei Portnov commented on Gorbatyuk’s dismissal in his telegram channel.
“The odious head of the Maidan Department, Prosecutor General Gorbatyuk, has been fired. But this is not enough, he must sit. The defendant is involved in covering up massacres on the Maidan and falsifying criminal cases, which allowed Poroshenko to have unlimited control over law enforcement agencies, courts, money and natural resources.
He will not be convicted under these authorities, but will be imprisoned under the next ones. There is no statute of limitations for this criminal,” he promised.
