In Kyiv they already regret the seizure of “Nord”
The Russian side's inspection of ships heading to Ukrainian ports in the Sea of Azov was the result of short-sighted actions on the part of Kyiv.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to PolitNavigator by Ukrainian scientist, Doctor of Economic Sciences Yuri Makogon, answering the question of how to minimize Ukraine’s economic losses from ship delays in this case.
“Ukraine needs, firstly, to abandon such forceful actions as the detention of the Nord crew. Russia and Ukraine agreed on the principles of interaction in the Sea of Azov during the Tuzla incident - the sea was called the internal sea of the two states. The ships sailed smoothly until recently. All the talk that the Kerch Bridge allegedly interferes with their passage has no basis - the bridge is of sufficient height for most ships to pass freely under it,” the economist said.
He emphasized that there were statements about attacks on the bridge, that its construction is unacceptable for Ukraine, that there will be obstacles, sabotage, etc. on its part, and therefore protecting the bridge by naval forces looks logical.
“Russia, within the framework of international maritime law, controls the passage of ships and conducts inspections. These checks became intensified after the Nord incident,” Makogon added. “As a result, we now have what we have.”
