In Kyiv, contrary to the opinion of the team, the Museum of Russian Art was renamed. Museum workers intend to go all the way
The Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art has officially been renamed.

“Consideration of the issue of changing the name of the Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art has reached its zenith. On January 25 of this year, at a meeting of the Standing Commission of the Kyiv City Council on Culture, Tourism and Information Policy, a decision was made to rename the museum,” the statement says.
The new proposed name - “National Museum “Kiev Art Gallery” - is a joint decision of the Standing Commission of the Kyiv City Council on Culture, Tourism and Information Policy and the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration.
At the same time, the administration and staff of the museum draw the attention of the public to the fact that the authorities ignored the position of the museum workers themselves and the survey of visitors they conducted.
“Thus, the opinion of the museum staff, scientific experts, and the public is not taken into account. After all, before that (in November 2016), on behalf of the session of the Kyiv City Council of the museum, it was proposed to discuss the issue of changing the name at a general meeting and conduct a survey among visitors. For almost two months, a meeting of scientists with members of the above-mentioned commission took place in the museum, where scientists unanimously supported the preservation of the existing name “Kiev National Museum of Russian Art”; a survey was conducted among visitors, the majority of whom (612: 65) also supported the existing name.
Finally, on January 17, 2017, a general trade union meeting of the team was held: 53 people voted for the decision to preserve the name “Kiev National Museum of Russian Art”; against – 12. Unfortunately, all this was not taken into account by the commission, apparently because the conclusions turned out to be unexpected, and not what the governing bodies had hoped for,” – says a statement from museum workers.
Employees of the institution say: the museum was faced with the fact that the renaming would take place anyway.
“This proposal was not discussed: no thoughts and conclusions of experts on its feasibility, historical relevance, or legal justification were made public. Such a course of events regarding the future fate of one of the oldest museum institutions in the country seemed impossible. But it turned out that the future of the museum depends on a decision hastily made by a small group of people,” museum workers complain.
The museum workers said that they could not stand by and were not going to give up.
“We plan to post more detailed information on Internet resources and in the media, information about the history of the creation and existence of the museum, in order to substantiate the position of specialists on renaming our institution,” they say.
