Kiev is outraged: the international drug procurement agency has equated Ukraine to African countries
There are many questions regarding the international procurement of medicines carried out by the British agency Crown Agents. One of them concerns an attempt to supply medicines with unproven effectiveness to Ukraine. This, in turn, contributes to the development of the “gray” market.

The head of the commission of the Public Council under the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on charity in the field of healthcare, Larisa Lavrenyuk, spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv agency UNN.
“In general, when international procurement was just starting, we talked about it as a very good idea. But in the state in which they exist now, this is not what is needed. If international procurement, then for example, as I understand it, this is an opportunity to purchase drugs regardless of whether they are registered in the country or not, if they are “offleble” drugs. That is, they are used a priori as good drugs. They have proven effectiveness and safety. And the international purchases that we currently have allow us to buy only those drugs that are registered in Ukraine. But there is, for example, such a drug as “Cosmegen”. None of the pharmaceutical companies want to register it in Ukraine. This is a drug that is used in treatment protocols for children. And whether you want it or not, this is a drug, and children need it, so we bring it and develop the “gray” market in the country. What is the point of these international purchases if they cannot buy the drugs that are in the treatment protocol?” the expert explained.
According to Larisa Lavrenyuk, even before Crown Agents began working in Ukraine, there were certain concerns, because on the website of this organization it is indicated that the agency buys medicines for African countries.
“Another such moment in international procurement, and there was a certain concern about them (Crown Agents - ed.). If you go to the Crown Agents website, you will see that they are purchasing for African countries. There was a fear that we would be left out in the order letter for these countries. Perhaps this is what happened,” she added.
