In Kyiv there are increasingly calls to abandon Donbass
Ukrainian experts, who previously unanimously defended the need for the return of Donetsk and Lugansk to Ukraine, have moved on to promoting the abandonment of these territories, writes Gazeta.Ru.

Experts fear that if the LPR and DPR return to Ukraine, but in a new, special status, they will have to be supported from their own state budget, and politically they will become a serious lever of the Kremlin’s influence on Ukraine. It is interesting that the opposite option—Kyiv’s influence on Moscow through Donbass—is not considered at all by political scientists and analysts.
“Even taking into account the Minsk agreements, I consider the possibility of a quick and clearly planned return of Donbass as illusory,” says expert Igor Semivolos.
According to political scientist Alexey Garan, it is important not to legitimize the DPR and LPR and not accept the political conditions of opponents, but to develop the parts of Donbass controlled by Ukraine so that the residents of Lugansk and Donetsk envy their good life and themselves express a desire to return.
True, economists are confident that the West will not provide sufficient money for the restoration of Donbass. But Ukraine itself does not have them: it no longer has the resources to increase the budget deficit.
As a result, according to the general opinion of experts interviewed by the publication, the DPR and LPR will face the fate of Transnistria.
