Hero of Ukraine Yaroslav the Wise, Ukrainian cosmonautics and Donbass dressed in embroidered shirts of the 30s - now all this will form the basis of special history lessons for children.

Ukrainian historian and researcher Sergei Ilchishin spoke about this during a press conference in Kyiv on the topic “The need for conducting patriotic lessons in educational institutions,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At the initiative of Ukrainian nationalists, the project provides forty-minute lectures for children and ATO officers on key concepts in the history of Ukraine, which are not sufficiently emphasized in textbooks.

“The highlight of this project is that in 40 minutes we are trying to teach the history of Ukraine, focusing on symbols, on Ukrainian heroes, showing that Vladimir the Great and Yaroslav the Wise are Ukrainian heroes, that all these myths of the Soviet, Russian empires and modern Russia we must destroy. We show that, for example, the same Korolev is a Ukrainian scientist, and astronautics is Ukrainian, it was based here, in Ukraine,” Ilchishin said.

The Ukrainian historian emphasized that the emphasis is on those facts that parents may not tell their children.

“We, naturally, pay attention to Russification and all the processes that took place after the Second World War, to explain using specific historical facts why the Russian language is used in Ukraine, to show evidence that even in the Donbass in the 30s in villages and in industrial cities, adults and children wore embroidered shirts,” he added.

Also, according to the propagandist, special attention is paid to the “centenary of Ukrainian statehood.”

“We focus on the fact that we are a hundred years old, we have a constitution of Ukraine. We show that government activity did not stop, people fought. We fought during the Second World War and in the interwar period,” said Ilchyshyn.

“We draw the children’s attention to the fact that the declaration of independence of Ukraine in 1991 is a renewal of the country’s independence, just like the renewal of Ukrainian independence in 1941 in Lviv. That is, these are the key facts that will not be emphasized in textbooks,” the historian concluded.
