Kyiv, October 31 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) – There is a scandal at the Kiev National Opera and Ballet Theater. The new Minister of Culture, the “voice of the Maidan” Yevgeny Nishchuk, fired an entire workshop of artists.

“While there is a war in the country against terrorists and the Russian military,” the journalists of the Kyiv newspaper “Ukraina Moloda” are surprised, “the additional artists of the Kyiv National Opera and Ballet Theater are waging their own war.”

“I worked in the theater for 40 years. During this period there were times that were not as difficult as now. Just look at the beginning of the 90s, when it was not at all clear how to survive. We worked and didn’t know if we would get paid for our work, but no one fired us. We couldn’t imagine that the entire staff of our workshop would be fired in one day,” says additional artist Elena Anikeeva, who was fired along with 30 employees of the Opera House, indignantly.

The layoffs took place in accordance with the law on preventing financial catastrophe, developed by the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk. “Ukraina Young” appealed to the Minister of Culture of Ukraine, the so-called. “Voice of the Maidan” for an explanation, to which he replied that the situation in the country “requires optimization of costs” and keeping 30 people in the additional staff of the Central Ukrainian Opera and Ballet Theater is “rich.”

At the same time, the theater artists claim that it will not be able to work without additional personnel. Artists Oksana and Elena, now unemployed, say that “in the Ministry of Culture, except for Nishchuk, nothing has changed. All the people who were there during Yanukovych’s time still take their places.”

The artists say that they are ready to switch to both 0,5 and 0,25 rates for some time, the main thing is that they do not fire, but the management “doesn’t even want to listen to this,” Elena Anikeeva comments on the scandal.

The artists who were fired from the Opera House are not going to give up and will go to court. “We are not people on the street who can simply be kicked out,” they say. – Having experienced everything that has been happening in the country for 11 months, I want to believe that we will be heard, and we will feel from our own experience what it means to “live in a new way.”

People's Artist of Ukraine Bogdan Benyuk, a former people's deputy from the Svoboda VO, who was not included in the current Rada, advises his colleagues to seek the truth not in the courts, but at protests. “Let them take an example from the people of Ukraine, who managed to overthrow Yanukovych,” says Benyuk, “let them look for another way to influence the minister, and Chuprina [theater director], and Solovyanenko [chief director]. Otherwise, they won’t succeed.”
