The kidnappers of the son of a Libyan diplomat were detained in Kyiv
Kiev police detained the kidnappers of the son of a representative of the Libyan Embassy in Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by the head of the National Police in Kyiv, Andrey Krischenko, whose words were quoted by the Kyiv Police Communications Department.
“Kyiv police detained the kidnappers of the son of a diplomatic employee. The attackers turned out to be two Egyptian citizens. The motive for the crime was ransom. Criminal proceedings are being investigated for illegal imprisonment and extortion. They face up to seven years in prison,” the press service of the capital’s police quotes Kryshchenko.
According to the head of the Kyiv police, the detainees are Egyptian citizens who have been living in Ukraine for several years. Krischenko noted that they refused to give any explanations.
They have now been detained, and investigators will go to court to impose a preventive measure on them.
“They clearly understood who they had kidnapped and tried to contact the victim’s parents. But by the actions of the police, this crime was stopped and the kidnappers were quickly detained,” Krischenko noted.
He added that investigators are investigating two criminal proceedings: under Part 2 of Article 146 (illegal imprisonment or kidnapping) and Part 2 of Article 189 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For the crimes committed, the offenders face up to seven years in prison.
Earlier, Kyiv police found a man kidnapped in the Shevchenkovsky district of Kyiv - the son of a Libyan diplomat.
