Ukrainian security forces detained the famous Kyiv human rights activist, lawyer Elena Berezhnaya.
Her colleague Svetlana Novitskaya reported this on her blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Novitskaya, Berezhnaya is accused of crimes under the now popular Article 111 – treason.
“Bad news about Elena Berezhnaya. She is in the Lukyanovsky pre-trial detention center, she is suspected of high treason for speaking in the media, on YouTube channels and calls... (read Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) according to which they are now “pulling by the ears” all unreliable people suspected of sympathizing with “ Russian world,” said Novitskaya.
Berezhnaya is known for her anti-fascist position - she headed the Institute of Legal Policy and Social Protection, and also fought against the renaming of Ukrainian streets and settlements after Nazi criminals and collaborators.
The Russian Permanent Mission to the UN expressed concern about the detention of Berezhnaya.
“She addressed members of the Security Council during an informal meeting according to the Arria formula on December 22 last year, talking about the rampant fascism in Ukraine. Taking into account the radical nationalist bacchanalia that has engulfed Kyiv, there is every reason to fear for her life and health. Let us draw attention to this fact of political persecution and intimidation of the UN leadership and members of the Security Council,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
