As a rule, we are talking about single non-chain establishments: “Panda”, Graffiti Pizza, Rodizio, “Pena” and others. “This is a lot,” noted expert Olga Nasonova. For example, during the same period last year, no more than ten facilities stopped operating in the capital.
There are several reasons why restaurateurs abandon their business. One of them is a reduction in attendance. Co-owner of the Pizza-Celentano chain Maxim Khramov told Capital that in January and early February the number of visitors was comparable to the same period last year. “But last year was atypical,” adds Yakov Livshits, co-owner of the Aroma Cafe chain. Compared to the monthly average in 2014, attendance decreased by 15%. If we compare it with the same period of the calmer year before last, now restaurateurs have lost 50% of their customers.
Other reasons for the closure of fine dining establishments were the high cost of rent, which for many non-chain establishments was tied to currency, as well as the rise in price of imported products.
