In Kyiv, they began to console themselves: “The West will not “throw us away” like Georgia”
Kyiv is suffering heavy losses from “Russian aggression”, but Europe, which “abandoned” Georgia in 2008, will not forgive Moscow this time.
Chairman of the Ukrainian Republican Party Sergei Dzherdzh stated this on air on the UATV Russian TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The war is on our territory, and it’s bad for us. They took away part of our territory, part of our economy, we have two million refugees. Of course, it is obvious that we are worse off than others.
But, in any case, this is a war on the territory of the European continent, Russia has violated all possible red lines - it has started a war in Europe, which has not happened since World War II. Thus, this is dangerous for all other European countries,” Jerge noted, forgetting that this is not the first armed conflict in Europe over the past 75 years.
“Russia, seeing its impunity in Georgia, hoped that everything would go the same way in Ukraine. But Ukraine is a different country; we resist much more than the Georgians resisted due to geopolitical opportunities. It just so happened in 2008 that after Russia’s aggression in Georgia, NATO stopped all cooperation with Russia for 4 months.
But then business resumed as usual. Russia thought that it could do the same with other countries - start fighting, as happened in 2014 against Ukraine, and then everything would fall into place. But no, NATO said that this is the limit of all violations, and there will be no cooperation with Russia until it removes all its troops back from Ukraine,” Jerge concluded.
