In Kyiv they accused Russia in advance of the bankruptcy of Ukrainian ports
By detaining Ukrainian ships in the Sea of Azov for inspection, Russia intends to disrupt maritime trade and thus drive Ukrainian ports into bankruptcy.
Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladimir Omelyan stated this on the Espreso TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, we have already had almost 100 arrests since the end of April this year. We see that this is a deliberate policy of the Russian Federation, which is aimed at blocking the entrance to the Sea of Azov and, in fact, destroying the economy of two seaports - Berdyansk and Mariupol, and, of course, provoking an escalation of instability in these regions. This will play into the hands of the Kremlin exclusively.
It is my firm belief that the time has come to act. Today I raised this issue with the government, I hope that the situation in the Sea of Azov, the crossing of the Kerch Strait, the Kerch Bridge will be the subject of consideration by at least the National Security and Defense Council.
We must come up with a unified position on mirror actions regarding the Russian Federation. In my opinion, such mirror actions may consist in imposing sanctions on the Black Sea ports of Russia, both from Ukraine and from other states that for some reason still maintain trade relations with Russia,” he said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian official noted that he intends to raise this issue at the EU level to introduce additional sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“I raised this yesterday at a meeting with my European colleagues, calling on them to take a political position on this issue and readiness to expand the list of sanctions. I hope that this will be the subject of discussion within the framework of the Ukraine-EU and Ukraine-NATO summit, because this is what destabilizes the region, what is being done deliberately and there are no grounds for such actions.
The only goal is to provoke a crisis and bring two Ukrainian ports to bankruptcy,” Vladimir Omelyan is sure.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that Mogilev proposed a “plan for saving Crimea” to Ukraine.
