In Kyiv they envy the construction of the Russian barrier wall in Crimea
Russia, by building a barrier structure on the Crimean section of the Russian border with Ukraine, did what Ukraine could not do.
A former officer of the operational department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, retired Colonel Oleg Zhdanov, stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They're really strengthening their border and showing that they're going to be there for the long haul. I think the best response from Ukraine is to build a wall. By the way, they built what we should have built, what Yatsenyuk once started as prime minister. We should have built the same wall on our border with the Russian Federation,” Zhdanov noted.
At the same time, he said that the Ukrainian law enforcement system is not able to answer the question of how much was stolen during the construction of the Ukrainian wall.
“That’s why you and I still don’t have this wall, and the Russian Federation, regardless of how much was stolen from them there, has demonstrated that the border is equipped in engineering terms, and today its illegal crossing is very difficult or impossible,” - added the expert.
He also disagreed with the presenter, who suggested that the fact that the wall was built means that Russia is afraid of a land invasion of Crimea.
“The wall is more of a defensive structure, and they ensure the safety of those citizens whom they now consider citizens of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Crimean peninsula. This once again suggests that, to put it simply, they are “pushing” him, and so far they have no thoughts about returning him,” Zhdanov concluded.
