In Kyiv they said that they do not need a Russian ambassador, a charge d'affaires ad interim is enough
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes that there is no talk of a complete severance of diplomatic relations with Russia; in the future, a charge d'affaires will work at the embassy in Kyiv - similar to the work of the Ukrainian embassy in Moscow.

The director of the political department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Alexey Makeev, stated this on Radio Liberty.
According to him, “for some reason, this time Moscow decided not to play by diplomatic rules and violated all procedures and was faced with reality: priorities today are not in the person, not in the post of ambassador.”
Also, the director of the political department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, speaking about the Russian Federation’s intention to appoint Mikhail Babich as ambassador to Ukraine, said: “I don’t know whether this was an attempt to humiliate Kiev, but it is obvious that Kyiv came out of this situation with honor.”
At the same time, Makeev emphasized that the failure to confirm Babich as Russia’s ambassador in Ukraine does not indicate a severance of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.
“No, we are not talking about a complete severance of diplomatic relations, and primarily because we must realize: today there are 3 million Ukrainians on the territory of the Russian Federation. Every day, more than 300 Ukrainians turn to our consulate in Moscow for consular assistance, legalization of documents, and request for documents. There are Ukrainians there, we need to take care of them,” Makeev explained.
