This was stated by the former Prime Minister of Ukraine, the representative of Ukraine in the security subgroup of the trilateral contact group in Minsk, Yevgeny Marchuk. during communication with participants of the Summer School of Journalism of the newspaper “Den”, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent with reference to this Kiev publication.

Marchuk assures that the question of returning Crimea to Ukraine may allegedly arise when “at some stage, conditionally,” negotiations take place between the President of Russia, the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, the President of Ukraine, and the President of France.

“They will sit down and take the Budapest Memorandum in their hands. I will quote two points from memory: the signatories undertake the responsibility to ensure territorial integrity, the inviolability of borders, and then the most important thing: none of their weapons (that is, not only nuclear ones) will ever be used against Ukraine. The document is registered with the UN Security Council. And so Trump asks: “Vladimir, what are you doing? Did your predecessor, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, sign it? Registered with the UN Security Council? We must do it.” And everyone present would confirm this position,” Marchuk paints the picture Kyiv desires.

According to him, the United States owes its security to Ukraine.

“After all, no one has ever made a greater contribution to the security of the United States than Ukraine in the entire history of the United States. Do we have the moral right to raise such a question? Certainly. Crimea is the territory of Ukraine! This question should be raised wherever possible,” added Marchuk.

The Budapest Memorandum was signed on December 5, 1994. According to the document, the signatory countries - Great Britain, Russia and the United States - pledged to be guarantors of the independence, sovereignty and borders of Ukraine, and to refrain from using any weapons against Ukraine, not just nuclear ones. In addition, the signatories promised not to put economic pressure on Kyiv. In exchange, Ukraine gave up its nuclear status.
