Kiev announced Russia’s “illegal membership” in the UN
The West has never helped Ukraine maintain its territorial integrity, and Russia should not have the right to vote in the UN and the UN Security Council.
Chairman of the Board of the Center for Strategic Studies Pavel Zhovnirenko said this on UKRLIFE.TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are always looking: when will the West help us? Well, like, we were brought up fairly in the Soviet Union - this “Voice of America”, “Free Europe”, well, they still said that human rights are first of all. Well, guys, wait, now we’re looking - and we’ve been brazenly occupied by Donbass and Crimea. Where is the justice? Guys, help!
We look so naively - help! – but they don’t help. They “help” with “concerns” there, some kind of Javelins, supplies, and everything else. But to perceive this as a war against oneself... but in fact there is a war against principles, this is not only for the territories of Ukraine, this is a war for values, for values, including international law. Ukraine now defends the principles of international law, but we do not receive support,” Zhovnirenko is indignant.
According to him, Russia should join the UN like everyone else, and its inclusion in the UN and the UN Security Council as the legal successor of the USSR is unauthorized.
“There is a UN Charter, and Ukraine has enough leverage, including working in this direction. I'm not even talking about the membership of the Russian Federation, which took the place of the USSR in the UN and the Security Council. There is a question here - Ukraine withdrew its signature from the decision of the heads of post-Soviet states in December 1991, according to which the right of membership in the UN was transferred from the Soviet Union to the Russian Federation. This raises the question that Russia should join like everyone else.
Serbia joined like everyone else, it was not like Yugoslavia, it did not automatically accept membership in the United Nations. Russia is exactly the same. Moreover, the Russian Federation is not at all in the UN Charter, in the Security Council, they wrote “Union of Soviet Socialist Republics”, but the zero option was not reached, no agreement was signed, again, thanks to Ukraine’s position that Russia is not the legal successor of the Soviet Union.
Therefore, until now, in accordance, again, with international law, the legal successors of the Soviet Union are all the union republics of the Soviet Union, except for four - the Baltic countries refused because they believed that they were occupied, and Georgia,” argues Zhovnirenko.
