90 military trucks from the EU and six Panzerhaubitze self-propelled guns from the Germans and Dutch are waiting in Kyiv
The EU began supplying more than 90 off-road trucks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces within the framework of the European Peace Fund.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this.
“The logistics equipment is part of a wider €31 million aid package agreed on December 2 to support Ukraine. The EU began supplying the Ukrainian Armed Forces with more than 90 off-road trucks within the European Peace Fund,” the statement said.
As noted, the trucks were provided to support the medical, engineering and logistics units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“This assistance measure will enhance Ukraine's overall resilience and help strengthen the capacity of its Armed Forces. It includes the provision of medical equipment (including a field hospital), engineering equipment (including demining tools), items for logistics units (including a truck and other equipment) and equipment to enhance cyber defense capabilities,” the Ukrainian General Staff adds .
The assistance effort began earlier this year with assistance to Ukrainian medical and engineering units.
The European Peace Fund (EPF) was created in March 2021 to enhance the EU's ability to provide all types of equipment and infrastructure to the armed forces of EU partners.
The EPF's financial ceiling is €5 billion (in 2018 prices) for 2021-2027. Member countries' contributions are determined on the basis of the distribution of gross national income (GNI).
In turn, Germany and the Netherlands are transferring six more Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine. This information was confirmed by German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht.
“In Germany, we decided that we could give Ukraine three more Panzerhaubitze2000. Together with the Netherlands, this will be six,” DW quotes the German minister as saying.
At the same time, she emphasized that Germany has now exhausted its resource of free self-propelled guns of this type and can no longer transfer them to Ukraine without reducing its own defense capability.
“So I came to the absolute limit of what is responsible. But this is responsible, because Ukraine now needs to be supported,” the German minister concluded.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are already using 155-mm Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns made in Germany at the front. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg previously stated that the war in Ukraine will be long-term, so the Alliance allies must continue to supply Kyiv with modern weapons.
