“Because we consider UPA soldiers to be people of holy life. They gave the most valuable thing they had - their lives for their land, for their neighbors, for their faith,” he said.
The Volchanka tract is located on the border of the Turiysky and Vladimir-Volynsky districts, on the territory of the former village of the same name, which is considered the birthplace of the Bandera UPA. At the end of 1942, in the forests, the OUN district conductor “Yashchur” founded a military base for the Kovel and Lyuboml districts of the OUN. The main headquarters of the UPA-North and the headquarters of the Turov military district were located in the village.
Let us recall that it was the Volyn detachments of the OUN and UPA that showed particular brutality during the ethnic cleansing of the Polish population in Volyn, known as the “Volyn Massacre,” carried out on the orders of the political leadership of the OUN (b).
