Tractor Maidan is raging in Chisinau
Farmers on dozens of tractors tried to storm the parliament of Moldova in Chisinau today.
The protest started yesterday. It was announced that it would continue on Thursday - at the government building.
Today, both the police and some of the tractors flocked there, but suddenly the scenario changed, and the farmers moved towards parliament - right up the stairs, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Police and internal troops confronted the protesters using tear gas. Clashes occurred, resulting in police injuries. A tractor drove over the leg of one of them and broke it.
After this, farmers' representatives were invited to parliament. But only pro-Western factions communicated with the protesters. Deputies from these factions were seen in the crowd during the storming of parliament.
Today, the pro-Western opposition put forward a vote of no confidence in the government loyal to the outgoing president Igor Dodon.
The issue of resignation will be considered next week, but it has little chance of passing, since the majority in parliament is not the pro-Western supporters of the elected President Maia Sandu, but Dodon’s socialists, who entered into a situational alliance with the party of the criminal oligarch of singer Jasmine’s husband, Ilan Shor.
The fact that the protest of farmers, which seems to be of an economic nature (demands for subsidies and compensation), is actually covering up a political war in parliament, is evidenced by the presence of Romanian flags at the rally: active supporters of Maia Sandu are the so-called unionists who advocate the merger of Moldova and Romania .
It is no coincidence that today, pro-Western deputies actively criticized the laws passed last week by the socialists and relating to increasing the status of the Russian language, the rights of the pro-Russian autonomy of Gagauzia, Russian television programs, as well as depriving the US Embassy of rights to the Republican Stadium in Chisinau.
Socialists draw attention to the fact that parliament was stormed by very expensive tractors today.
“Some say that this is the Tractor Revolution, others are sure that this is the revolution of the landowners. You can call these citizens whatever you want: landowners, millionaires, puppets of the State Department and oligarchs.
But one thing is clear - this is not the People. This is a bunch of crooks controlled by an ambassador who are fighting against their own people, with their right to speak their own language.
They are fighting against the return of 40 percent of their own land, against the return of their own stadium. Only lackeys do this,” wrote socialist MP Bogdan Tsydrya in his Telegram channel.
