Chisinau is not giving up claims to a number of Ukrainian territories
Romania's official policy towards Moldova is aimed at integrating this country into Euro-Atlantic structures.
The Russian Ambassador to Romania Valery Kuzmin stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He was asked how far Bucharest is ready to go in terms of integrating the interests of Moldova into its own politics, and whether the issue of the possible expansion of Romania at the expense of Moldova is being discussed in political circles.
“Romania has historically had paternalistic feelings towards the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the official policy of Bucharest is based on the concept of “two Romanian states” and is aimed at fully supporting the integration of Moldova into the European Union and NATO,” Kuzmin said in an interview with Izvestia.
He emphasized that the current pro-Western government in Chisinau is receiving considerable financial and economic assistance.
“As for Romanian political circles, in their radical-nationalist, as they say here, Romanian-unionist segment, the idea of reviving “Great (Greater) Romania” has been discussed for decades, and at the same time claims are being made to a number of territories (including Northern Bukovina, some Black Sea lands of modern Ukraine and beyond),” the ambassador concluded.
