The bank of an escaped oligarch was successfully robbed in Chisinau
About $1,6 million was stolen last weekend from safe deposit boxes at the commercial bank Moldova Agroindbank in Chisinau.
This was stated by the press service of the General Police Inspectorate of Chisinau, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To date, 31 people have contacted the police - we are talking about victims in this case, and material damage totaling 29 million 431 thousand 840 lei has been established,” the statement says.
The police claim that there was a “total disregard for security measures” at the bank. It was established that the robbers entered the bank by cutting the window bars and also breaking the lock of a special vault. The inspectorate stated that they intend to contact authorized government agencies in order to urgently tighten legal regulations relating to security systems. The bank denies all accusations.
The fact that Moldova Agroindbank was captured by the oligarch, “master of Moldova” Vlad Plahotniuc, was stated in 2017 by the opposition Moldovan politician Renato Usatii. Allegedly, the oligarch forced businessman Vyacheslav Platon, who is serving a sentence for stealing a billion from the country’s banking system, to transfer his stake in Moldova Agroindbank to the state. After this, the shares passed to Plahotniuc.
