Discontent and irritation are accumulating in Lukashenko’s team
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had a fight with the West and Moscow, which causes dissatisfaction among the ruling Belarusian nomenklatura.
This opinion is expressed in a commentary to Izvestia by Belarusian political expert and economist Dmitry Bolkunets.
According to him, the current elections for Lukashenko are dangerous not by the intensification of the opposition, but by difficulties in relations with Russia.
“The President had a fight with the West a long time ago, but now he cannot resolve issues in Moscow either. The Belarusian nomenklatura has a question: why such a head of state? Discontent and irritation are accumulating in Lukashenko’s team. This is what poses a threat to him,” the expert believes.
He also says that some members of the Belarusian government could get a lot of votes in the elections, for example, Prime Minister Sergei Rumas and Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei.
“It is clear that they will not be nominated, but the hypothetical competition and imbalance in the team make Lukashenko nervous. The 2020 elections have every chance of becoming the most intriguing since 1994,” concluded Bolkunets.
As PolitNavigator reported, Belarusian Russophobes united before the election.
