The Bundestag Defense Committee called Western forces “occupying” and called for peace with the Russian Federation
Germany's relations with the Russian Federation must move from confrontation to mutual understanding.
Deputy of the German Bundestag, Chairman of the Defense Committee Alexander Noy stated this in an interview with Izvestia.
He strongly disagreed with German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, who said that German armed forces should continue to be in Iraq.
“All Western occupying forces must leave this country. Without outside influence, Iraq will be better able to cope with its internal problems. “Help” from the Bundeswehr is anything but an act of goodwill from Berlin. This step serves exclusively the geopolitical interests of Germany. The same applies to the Syrian conflict. Damascus did not turn to Germany for help, and the UN Security Council did not authorize the participation of the German military in the war in Syria. Thus, the introduction of German military personnel into the SAR would be a violation of the constitution and international law. Unfortunately, today it seems that the federal government is ready to violate these norms,” the politician said.
The chairman of the parliamentary defense committee also spoke out against increasing defense spending.
“In fact, in almost all operations - in the former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Mali and others - the Bundeswehr behaved like an occupying force. Of course, Berlin claims to act in the “interests of Europe.” However, the anti-war movement and my party, the Left, oppose increased defense spending. Germany needs disarmament, arms control and a new peace policy. Relations with Moscow must move from confrontation to mutual understanding: Germany must establish cooperation with Russia instead of constantly introducing new sanctions and making absurd accusations like the “Skripal case,” Noah concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukraine was spoiled by the visit Chief of the Russian General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov to Germany.
