The lack of coordination of actions and the accumulation of parallel structures leads to real military clashes between professional Ukrainian military personnel and volunteers of numerous nationalist battalions. In 2014, for example, the special-purpose police battalion “St. Mary” was created. The backbone of the battalion were members of the political party “Brotherhood” of Dmitry Korchinsky.
Although it was formed in Kyiv, it should serve in the Donbass and purely for punitive purposes. The military controlling the territory, when faced with unknown armed people on their territory, often came into conflict with them. Today, Korchinsky's battalion has been disbanded.

At the end of June 2015, the commander of the seventeenth motorized infantry battalion of the fifty-seventh brigade of the head of the Dzerzhinsky garrison learned that four armed men were checking cars at an intersection near the village of Katerynivka, Konstantininsky district, Donetsk region. No one warned him, who was responsible for controlling this territory, about this.
Having gathered the garrison personnel and taking with him the policemen of the nationalist battalion “Peacemaker”, the battalion commander went to the showdown. Having reached the scene of the incident in four cars, he saw that the check was in full swing: three trucks were already standing by the side of the road, and the documents and car keys were in the hands of the St. Mary’s militants.
First the battalion commander introduced himself. St. Mary's militants too. Then he demanded that the documents and keys be returned to the detained drivers and that they go home. When he didn’t receive the required action, he fired his machine gun first into the air and then into the ground. It was only when he blew up a grenade in a ditch that they obeyed and released the drivers.
The prisoners were brought to the garrison location. However, after clarifying relations with the authorities, the “brothers” had to be released. After all, despite the fact that there is actually a war in the country, martial law has not been officially declared.
The court, taking into account the natural hatred of the military towards nationalists, I decided not to punish the battalion commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but gave him bail to the team.
